We Do It On The Stairs“.
“‘Build What Here?” is a design contest organized by the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) inviting designers to build a temporary sustainable architecture for the Roskilde Festival 2011, to be held from 30 June to 3 July on the island of Zealand in Denmark. The first prize went to two students of the Berlin-based collective Re-Make/Re-Model, Victor Serrander (Stockholm) and Anders Grivi Norman (Oslo) who presented a project called “Why Don’t We Do It On The Stairs“. It is a structure made of recycled plywood, consisting of two large stairs that look like the stands of football stadium facing each other. The structure intends to be a dynamic and interactive space for people, a multi-functional place thanks to the seating and the so-called “activity boxes”: small stands for video screenings, debates and where one can dance, relax or enjoy moments of the festival on their own.A space, therefore, that can host any type of activity throughout every hour of every day of the festival, a meeting and recreational centre that, at night transforms into a dance stage with art and light installations, as well as a sheltered seating area to protect spectators when it rains. A platform for creativity, for relaxation and where one can enjoy a party without feeling overwhelmed by the crowd, a design concept tailor-made for people and that gives particular attention to flexibility and to easy-to-use architect.
